SINGAPORE — Passengers from different households have to keep to a two-person limit while travelling in taxis and private-hire cars (PHCs) during the COVID-19 stabilisation phase from Monday (27 September) to 24 October.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) added in a media release on Saturday that more than two passengers can travel together in a taxi or PHC if they all live in the same household.

“For example, a parent can travel with his/her two children if they live together,” it said.

All commuters, whether on trains, buses, taxis or PHCs, are reminded to keep their face masks on at all times. Taxi and PHC drivers will decline fetching passengers who do not wear face masks.

Car-pooling services to be suspended

During the stabilisation phase, all forms of car-pooling services will be suspended. These include services such as GrabHitch and RydePool, which involve drivers receiving payment for ferrying passengers while en-route to their destination.

Social car pooling trips are only permitted among friends or colleagues if the prevailing permissible group size of two people is adhered to.

Commuters are strongly encouraged to use taxis and PHCs booked through licensed ride-hail operators. Those who come across individuals providing illegal car pooling services should notify LTA through the OneMotoring portal.
