American League East rivals meet in the Division Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox that begins on Thursday. The best-of-five series will be played at Tropicana Field and Fenway Park.
The Rays (100-62) had the AL’s best record, winning 100 games for the first time in franchise history. Meanwhile, the Red Sox (92-70) had to beat the New York Yankees in the wild-card game to advance to the ALDS.
Tampa Bay won the season series 11-8, including two of three in the teams’ last meeting in Boston in September. The Rays had the AL’s best ERA (3.67) in the regular season on the strength of their bullpen (3.24 ERA), also the top mark in the AL.
